Of all the famous Cambridge editions of the Bible this one is particularly handsome. The text is 'black print' with a very readable font and font size, and there is just the plain, pure text on each page with no distractions. If you want a classic, plain, pure and unadorned King James Bible this is the standard edition available. When I look at mine laying on the table right now it looks like it could've been in the pack-saddle of a conquistador in the New World, or on the work bench of John Bunyan, or in the hands of a missionary on a great sailing ship in the eighteenth century, or in the possession of a settler on the Great Plains of the United States in the nineteenth century... amazon reviewer from California

The King James Version of the Bible was first published in 1611. It was the world of 47 scholars who translated it 'out of the original tongues' of Hebrew, Aramaic and Greek, 'with the former translations diligently compared and revised.' Part of their work was done in the ancient University City of Cambridge.One of the 'former translations' was the Geneva Bible, so called because the translations was carried out by English-speaking exiles living in Geneva, Switzerland. The first Bible to be printed in Cambridge in 1591 was the Geneva version, and it began a tradition of Bible printing which has spanned over 400 years.

Best everyday Bible in print

The Cambridge Bibles are indeed the highest quality in print. This particular version, the KJV Standard Text Edition (Black French Morocco Leather) is the nicest packaged Bible I have seen. Outstanding leather, excellent paper, and bar-none the easiest-on-the-eyes text available in print today make it wonderful for reading. No cluttery references or pronunciation marks, no red-lettering (after all, neither were in the original AV translation or most of the subsequent revisions) and a simple dictionary in the back are nice features. Furthermore, there is no copyright in the front, a feature loved by any KJV fan, since the text of the KJV is public domain.
This Bible would make an outstanding gift for anyone interested in the things of God.

User-friendly and comfortable Bible

I use the phrase "user-friendly" from the standpoint of a pastor. This Bible, from day 1, has always laid flat on my desk and the pulpit I preach from, including Genesis 1 and Revelation 22. No annoying front or back cover popping up on you while you study or preach.
The only thing about the description on the box cover that may be misleading is the "words of Christ in red" statement. If you attempt to find the words that Christ speaks in the book of Revelation, they will not be in red. Acts 9 (Saul's conversion) does not have Christ's words in red. On the title page for the New Testament, the following is found in red print: WITH THE WORDS OF OUR LORD WHILE UPON EARTH PRINTED IN RED. Obviously this applies to the Gospels and the epistles that quote Christ's words while He had His earthly ministry. In my opinion, this does not make this Bible any less valuable.
This edition does not have any center-line cross references, footnotes or any other "extras" that can come in handy, if you are used to using them. There is not a concordance, nor any maps. There is a Bible word list after the New Testament. This gives brief definitions of archaic words found in the KJV or words that have changed in meaning from the time of writing to the present. A two-year Bible reading plan is also included. If you like simplicity, this is the Bible to have.
The 8-point text size is easy on the eyes. It is comfortable to hold or have on your lap as it is lightweight. Cambridge has done another fine job in producing this Bible edition. I heartily recommend it.
