Helpful Text for Medical School Geriatrics Rotation

I read this book during my geriatrics rotation, and it was exactly what I needed. At 300 pages, the book can easily be read cover to cover during a four week rotation. It covered all of the major medical (including psychiatric) and social issues that commonly come up while seeing geriatric patients. Each chapter begins with a case, asks you questions about the case, and then discusses the answers. Some of these topics aren't discussed in a regular medicine text, such as how to deal with a patient who is a bad driver and lacks insight.
Even in the chapters that cover common medical problems, the authors bring potential geriatrics-specific issues to your attention. For example, they mention that thyroid disease is commonly asymptomatic in older people, and that TSH screening is often required because there may not be much in the way of clinical findings. They also give suggestions for overcoming social issues, such as lack of ability to pay for treatment and refusal to use a cane to prevent falling.
