About the Author
Mark A. Wrathall is Associate Professor at the Department of Philosophy, Brigham Young University, Utah. He has published articles in a number of journals and has contributed chapters to books in the Cambridge Companions to Philosophy series. He is co-editor of Appropriating Heidegger (Cambridge, 2000), Heidegger, Authenticity, and Modernity (2000), and Heidegger, Coping, and Cognitive Science (2000).

Religion after the Death of God

Put together from a conference at Sundance (Utah) in the summer of 2001 about religion after the Death of God (Nietzsche), this short but informative work is a collection of essays by some of the most important philosophers involved in contemporary Continental philosophy. The material here is not light, but well worth reading. The essays center around how religion should/could/can be approached after modernity and science have left many without a firm religious foundation. Most of the writers here are sympathetic to religion (as Continental philosophy is in general--e.g. Derrida's post 1990 interest in religion) with the obvious exception of Rorty, but none of the philosophers think about God and religion in a classical Christian conception sort of way. This is a great introduction to thinking about God in various post Heideggerian, post Nietzschean ways. Very refreshing. Highly recommended.
